Finally ... The city of New Orleans and The state of LA. is taking responsibility

For their citizens

From the NY Daily News:

No shelter for those that stay in New Orleans as Gustav approaches

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Saturday, August 30th 2008, 12:55 AM

NEW ORLEANS — Police with bullhorns plan to go street to street this weekend with a tough message about getting out ahead of Hurricane Gustav: This time there will be no shelter of last resort. The doors to the Superdome will be locked. Those who stay will be on their own.

New forecasts Friday made it increasingly clear that New Orleans will get some kind of hit — direct or indirect — by early next week. That raised the likelihood people would have to flee, and the city suggested a full-scale evacuation call could come as soon as Sunday.

Those among New Orleans’ estimated 310,000 to 340,000 residents who ignore orders to leave accept “all responsibility for themselves and their loved ones,” the city’s emergency preparedness director, Jerry Sneed, has warned.

As Katrina approached in 2005, as many as 30,000 people who either could not or would not evacuate jammed the Louisiana Superdome and the riverfront convention center. They spent days waiting for rescue in squalid conditions. Some died.

Stung by the images that flashed across the world, including the photo of an elderly woman dead in her wheelchair, her bodied covered with a blanket, officials promised to find a better way.

This time, the city has taken steps to ensure no one has an excuse not to leave. The state has a $7 million contract to provide 700 buses to evacuate the elderly, the sick and anyone around the region without transportation.

Officials also plan to announce a curfew that will mean the arrest of anyone still on the streets after a mandatory evacuation order goes out. Police and National Guardsman will patrol after the storm’s arrival, and Gov. Bobby Jindal has said he requested additional urban search and rescue teams.

On Saturday police planned to roam neighborhoods, directing residents-in-need to pick up points. The city also planned to reach out to churches, hoping to spread the word about where the buses will pick up evacuees.

But many weren’t waiting to be told to leave: Northbound traffic was heavy Friday on Interstate 55 — a major route out of the city — and backseats of some cars were stacked with clothes, boxes and bags. Gas stations around the city hummed with activity. Meanwhile, hospitals and nursing homes also began moving patients further inland.

In an effort to keep track of where people go after they leave the city, officials planned to give evacuees who provided authorities their information ahead of time bar-coded bracelets containing their ID.

Someone will still blame Bush though, I am CERTAIN of it

Any suggestions as to how?

Ok so just a side note here

I think my post yesterday on Palin as the VP pick for McCain proves that I just dont "tow" the Republican party line, but instead follow my conservative principles.

I am still getting used to the idea of her, I am reading about her and I like SOME of what she is about but not all.

I like the strategy though. McCain is proving that he is all about change and not Obama. McCain is proving that he is ready to go in there not following usual Republican party lines and make a difference.

Let me state for the record...I have never liked McCain..one bit. The last election in Arizona where he was running, I voted for the other guy just so I wouldnt have to deal with him anymore (bad voting, I know, but I have that much disdain for the man) So its driving me frackin insane that he is the closest thing to a conservative choice I have on the ticket

God help us all

Unexpected Surprise

I was so proud today. So I was sitting at home, bored, (an ear infection has kept me from being out for too long of time) when I get a text from my kid sister about McCain picking Palin as his VP. We then had a good hour long text conversation about Palin, McCain, and the race in general... I was utterly surprised because I didn't know my sister was even following the election, and turns out she's been keeping an eye on it the entire time. It especially made me happy since my girlfriend and most of my best friends are so completely apolitical that they don't know which party is which, nor do they care. Think god for lifes little triumphs.

From the WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING file:

From the AP Via Yahoo News:

McCain taps Alaska governor for VP

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer 1 minute ago

DENVER - John McCain tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a conservative who shares his maverick streak, to be the Republican vice presidential running mate on Friday in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

In an announcement, McCain's campaign said that Palin, who has been governor less than two years, "has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of.

"Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today," the announcement said.

McCain and Palin were appearing together in swing-state Ohio later in the day.

Palin has a strong anti-abortion record, and her selection was praised warmly by social conservatives whose support Mccain needs to prevail in the campaign for the White House.

"It's an absolutely brilliant choice," said Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University school of Law. "This will absolutely energize Mccain's campaign and energize conservatives," he predicted.

With his pick, McCain passed over more prominent contenders like Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, as well as others such for former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, whose support for abortion rights might have sparked unrest at the convention that opens Monday in St. Paul, Minn.

The timing of McCain's selection appeared designed to limit any political gain Obama derives from his own convention, which ended Thursday night with his nominating acceptance speech before an estimated 84,000 in Invesco Field in Colorado.

Public opinion polls show a close race between Obama and McCain, and with scarcely two months remaining until the election, neither contender can allow the other to jump out to a big post-convention lead.

At 44, Palin is a generation younger than two of McCain's seven children. She also is considerably younger than Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, who is Barack Obama's running mate on the Democratic ticket.

She is three years Obama's junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama's relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.

In its formal announcement, the campaign pointed to her powers as head of the Alaska National Guard and the mother of a soldier herself as evidence that she "understands what it takes to lead our nation..."

McCain has had months to consider his choice, and has made it clear to reporters that one of his overriding goals was to avoid a situation like 1988, when then-Sen. Dan Quayle was thrown into a national campaign with little preparation.

A self-styled hockey mom and political reformer, Pallin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 6,500, until she became governor.

Palin flew overnight to an airport in Ohio near Dayton, and even as she awaited her formal introduction, some aides said they had believed she was at home in Alaska.

She is a former mayor of Wasilla who became governor of her state in December, 2006 after ousting a governor of her own party in a primary and then dispatching a former governor in the general election.

More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Palin has a long history of run-ins with the Alaska GOP hierarchy, giving her genuine maverick status and reformer credentials that could complement McCain's image.

Two years ago, she ousted the state's Republican incumbent governor, Frank Murkowski in the primary, despite having little money and little establishment backing.

She has also distanced herself from two senior Republican office-holders, Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don young. Both men are under federal corruption investigations.

She had earned stripes — and enmity — after Murkowski made her head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. From that post, she exposed ethical violations by the state GOP chairman, also a fellow commissioner.

Her husband, Todd Palin, is part Yup'ik Eskimo, and is a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who competes in the Iron Dog, a 1,900-mile snowmobile race. The couple lives in Wasilla. They have five children, the youngest of whom was born in April with Down syndrome.

Talk show host convicted and sentenced

Thankfully this scumbag will shortly be behind bars.

He tried to play off the charges like he was doing research for his show...YEAH RIGHT. I didnt buy that for a minute, now, as it turns out, I was right.

From the San Jose Mercenary News:

Former talk show host sentenced to more than seven years in prison
By Howard Mintz
Mercury News
Article Launched: 08/28/2008 11:52:46 AM PDT

With his sobbing family looking on in a San Francisco courtroom, former KGO radio host Bernie Ward today completed his tumble from one of the Bay Area's most popular liberal voices on the local airwaves to a pariah caught up in the world of online child pornography.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker sentenced Ward to seven years and three months in federal prison, calling the disgraced celebrity a "troubled individual'' whose downfall is a "personal tragedy.'' Ward now must turn himself in to U.S. Marshals by noon Friday to begin his prison term.

Ward declined to comment after the hearing, where his family and friends sat in the gallery, his wife and son in the front row clutching each others' hands. Ward hugged his family when he emerged from the courtroom and walked away with his lawyer. Before the sentence was handed down, Ward spoke briefly to the judge, saying, "I regret the harm this has caused my family, my friends, and this community.''

The 57-year-old Ward pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of distributing child pornography, the result of an investigation that was triggered by his online chats with an online dominatrix who turned him in to police when she grew concerned about images he had of young children. The former Roman Catholic priest and father of four went into federal court in San Francisco knowing he would be headed to prison for a minimum of five years under strict federal sentencing guidelines for child porn cases.

In fact, the hearing highlighted the harsh penalties defendants now face when convicted of downloading child porn onto their computers. Even Walker said he was "not at all convinced'' that sending defendants such as Ward to prison is the best way to address the societal problem of child porn proliferating on the Internet. Ward is one of the mounting numbers of defendants in the Bay Area and across the country facing federal convictions for child porn. A recent Mercury News analysis found that child porn prosecutions in the federal courts have jumped from just a few dozen in the mid-1990s to thousands per year in the nation's federal courts.

But federal prosecutors urged Walker to sentence Ward to nine years in prison, describing his conduct in recent court papers as "amoral, universally unacceptable and aberrant.'' The government's court documents alleged that Ward possessed images of sex acts on children as young as three years old, and revealed his online exchanges with the dominatrix in which he discussed his sexual attraction to children.

"These images depicted these minors suffering the most horrific torment,'' Steve Grocki, a Justice Department lawyer who led the Ward prosecution, said to Walker. "He traded in the currency of human suffering.''

Under his plea agreement, Ward admitted sending dozens of porn images via email. But his lawyer urged Walker to impose the lowest possible sentence, saying Ward began downloading the images as part of journalism research that went awry, spiralling out of control when he began drinking heavily. Doron Weinberg, Ward's attorney, told Walker the child porn downloading "spanned a brief period in an exemplary life.''

"What is profoundly sad is that Bernie Ward is a good man," Weinberg told the judge.

Dozens of Ward's supporters wrote letters to the judge, extolling the talk show host and urging leniency. At the same time, groups aligned against child abuse have pressed for the harshest possible sentence for Ward to make an example of him in the fight against online child porn.

Ward filled KGO's airwaves for three hours every night, an outspoken liberal who took on the Iraq war, conservative causes and President George W. Bush. He also hosted the station's "God Talk'' show on Sunday mornings, now hosted by San Jose State professor Brent Waters, who plans to discuss the child pornography issue on this Sunday's show. KGO fired Ward after the child porn charges came to light.

Another Left Wing blog exposed for the lies

I was perusing the moonbats

Always an adventure in lies and misleading.

So I checked out this guy, "Thinking Meat", more affectionately known to his readers as MEATHEAD .. a reference to the socialist liberal in the 1970's TV series All In The Family

He is one of those guys who likes to make believe that he is an educated liberal, when in fact he is a lying sack of dog doo who believes his own lies so much that he will argue when he is proven wrong.

He really has NO SUBSTANCE on his blog, not an orginal thought is to be found ANYWHERE in his musings, instead what you will find is a HATE FILLED imaginary smack down of conservative blogs.

His latest attempt to hide the truth comes in this form
:

"Poor gullible Amy Proctor has been taken in by yet another wingnut attack on Barack Obama:"

"So, no “flagophobia” there. And as far as “egomania” is concerned, take a gander at the tail of McCain’s campaign plane:"

Anyway, look at the article he wrote

He posts this pic of Obamas plane:

And then this pic of McCains plane:

And then makes the claim that McCain has no flag on his plane.

Um

Excuse me?

So there it is, one lie handily defeated, but its Meathead that has been defeated, not Amy Proctor. Nuff said?

And while we are at it, lets take a closer look at Obamas plane, shall we?

Notice how Obamas plane is a 757 while McCains is a 737 .. wonder whose carbon footprint is larger?

Huh...it continues to amaze me just how stinking hypocritical the left is.

Yep, she summed it up well

My wife made an observation today

She said that the thing that scares her about Obama is that he has no belief system.

Fair enough

She added that the last person who held a position of power in a country that didnt have a belief system was Hitler.

I love the Canadian education system :)

And I love my wife

McCain squashes Obama in presidential race between giant Madagascar hissing cockroaches

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) -- This presidential race was no contest: John McCain sped to the finish while Barack Obama was reluctant to leave the starting point.

But there's no guarantee giant Madagascar hissing cockroaches will predict the real result in November.

The roach race Thursday was part of the New Jersey Pest Management Association's annual clinic and trade show.

Organizers liken the race's prediction success to that of Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog Day.

Association Executive Director Leonard Douglen says the 2000 roach race came close. The Gore roach won by an antenna, hanging chads not included.

Abuses of children horrifying in Senegal's Quranic schools
The Associated Press
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 08.17.2008

KAOLACK, Senegal — It hurts too much to lie on his back, so the 7-year-old has spent the past month stretched out on his stomach. His two grandmothers sit on the hospital bed beside him, fanning the pink flesh left exposed by his teacher's whip.

It's progress that Momodou Biteye is in the hospital at all. It's also encouraging that the Quranic teacher who did this to him is behind bars.

But what is most significant is that the boy's father — a poor farmer who sold part of his harvest to pay for the bus fare to the hospital — filed the charges against the teacher himself. In doing so, this man with cracked lips and bloodshot eyes braved the wrath of his entire village, including his own father, who considers all teachers in Senegal's Islamic schools to be holy.

In hundreds of these schools in the mostly Muslim West African country, children are made to beg in the streets and are beaten if they don't bring back enough money. One 10-year-old was beaten to death with his hands tied behind his back and his mouth stuffed with rocks. Despite laws passed to protect children, the courts have convicted only a handful of Quranic teachers and quickly cave in the face of powerful clerics.

The biggest obstacle to justice is the families themselves; they are unwilling to speak out against the teachers. Government officials say they cannot think of another case where a family has brought charges.

"Some people may say bad things about me. Even my own village is against me," says 40-year-old Moussa Biteye, the father of the thin boy. "But I think I am within my rights."

The respect for Islamic schools comes from a centuries-old tradition of families sending their sons to study the Quran and till fields in exchange for food. In the 1970s, as drought devastated West Africa, schools moved to the cities and Islamic teachers sent children out to beg in the streets. These days, boys as young as 3 are beaten not for failing to master the Quran, but for failing to bring back enough money — a change that families often are unaware of.

Biteye's village is a 30-mile drive from here on a potholed road, past herds of skinny cattle. Almost all the men in the village can recite verses from the Quran, especially the boy's grandfather, Baba Biteye, a wrinkled man who taught the holy book for 40 years before going blind.

The old man becomes agitated when asked about his grandson. He is angry not because of the severe beating, but because the boy's father — his son — dared press charges against the Quranic teacher, or marabout.

"It was an accident and my son had no right to humiliate the marabout by doing what he did," he says. "The day they took the marabout to prison, it hurt me so much it was as if they had come to jail me."

No one in this poor village is surprised that the boy was beaten. A child needs to suffer, the grandfather says, to master the difficult text. It's a sentiment that is echoed in the village chief's hut, under the grass roofs of neighbors' homes and on the lips of other families whose own sons are still in the jailed teacher's boarding school.

Hitting and education are so intertwined in Senegal that the word for "to educate" — "yaar" is the same as the word for the stick to discipline students.

"See this?" says Omar Drame, a middle-aged villager, as he bends his head forward and points to an indentation on the top of his skull. "It's my marabout that did this to me. It forged me. It allowed me to learn that I can overcome difficulty."

At first, even the father thought his son was lying about why he was beaten. The marabout told investigators that he hit the boy for mispronouncing a verse from the Quran.

But when the father saw his son, he wept. "I knew that he would be hit — but I didn't think he would be hit up to this point," says Biteye.

The boy says that when he arrived at the school in June, his marabout handed him an empty tin can and told him not to come back before filling it with 200 francs (about 50 cents).

The boy also had to beg for food. Some days all he got was a discarded fish head, or a spoonful of rice.

By the second week, he was hungry all the time. On July 2, he begged until dark and got the 50 cents, but spent part of it on biscuits. When the marabout found out, the boy says, he got whipped until the skin on his back fell off. Hospital officials believe the whip was laced with metal.

With around 30 children in his care, the marabout was netting $430 a month, three times the salary of an average citizen and as much as a government official.

"Ask yourself, what is this money used for? The kids are not fed, so it's not for food. They wear rags, so it's not for clothes. They don't have mattresses, so it's not for their beds," says Paul Ndiaye, of the Swiss aid group Sentinelles, who has spent the last 10 years trying to get courts to take action against abusive marabouts. "This is a sham on a grand scale under the cover of religion."

The reaction from the boy's village doesn't surprise Aissatou Mbodj, Senegal's former minister of the family and now vice president of the country's parliament. Three years ago, a 3-year-old boy turned up at a government shelter, his back sliced open by his teacher's whip.

The boy's father refused to file charges. Mbodj was so angry that she paid a lawyer to file them herself. Soon after, she began receiving death threats.

"The parents of these children believe in these men so completely that when they hand over their sons, they relinquish all control," says Mbodj, who is married to a prominent cleric. "They swear allegiance to the marabout and say that whatever happens to their son is for the child's good."

The marabout against whom she pressed charges was sentenced to five years in prison, in one of the only cases of firm reprimand by a Senegalese court. Far more cases end in a suspended sentence.

_________________________________________

Ok, so this begs the obvious first question, "Why don't we hear about Christian schools that have the same problems with beatings?"

Anyone?

AH forget it, I will answer it myself, because Christians BELIEVE in peace and do not just put it out there as a front, whereas ISLAM does.

This is a different country, and a different culture with different beliefs and traditions, but correct me if I am wrong here, aren't children supposed to be protected and loved WORLDWIDE?

Using them as whipping boys and sources of income is outrageous and EXPLOITIVE.

Lets face it ... ISLAM IS A FARCE

There is NOTHING peaceful about their holy book. NOTHING.

Conservative VS Liberal

I was perusing blogs this morning and ran across this:

Liberals are meaner, cheaper, more willing to steal than Conservatives

Posted on August 16, 2008

-By Warner Todd Huston

Peter Schweizer, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, has a new book out that is sure to drive the loony left, well, even loonier. In the new book Makers and Takers, Schweizer tells us “why conservatives work harder, feel happier, have closer families, take fewer drugs, give more generously, value honesty more, are less materialistic” than lefties in America.

This from his website:

* Seventy-one percent of conservatives say you have an obligation to care for a seriously injured spouse or parent versus less than half (46 percent) of liberals.
* Conservatives have a better work ethic and are much less likely to call in sick than their liberal counterparts.
* Liberals are 2_ times more likely to be resentful of others’ success and 50 percent more likely to be jealous of other people’s good luck.
* Liberals are 2 times more likely to say it is okay to cheat the government out of welfare money you don’t deserve.
* Conservatives are more likely than liberals to hug their children and “significantly more likely” to display positive nurturing emotions.
* Liberals are less trusting of family members and much less likely to stay in touch with their parents.
* Do you get satisfaction from putting someone else’s happiness ahead of your own? Fifty-five percent of conservatives said yes versus only 20 percent of liberals.
* Rush Limbaugh, Ronald Reagan, Bill O’Reilly and Dick Cheney have given large sums of money to people in need, while Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Moore, and Al Gore have not.
* Those who are “very liberal” are 3 times more likely than conservatives to throw things when they get angry.

More is coming out on possible lies and deception from Obama

Since the story broke late Saturday that Barack Obama’s real Birth Certificate, now in Republican hands, has the name Barry Soetoro and not Barack Obama, as we predicted a couple of weeks ago, I notice that many people are still confused about the implications of dual citizenship for Obama.

The matter is somewhat complex, so I’ve decided to try to provide a summary, with the help of resident expert ”Judah Benjamin.”

Indonesian Connection

Soetoro is the name on Obama’s Birth Certificate (BC) because a new BC was issued when he was adopted by Lolo Soetoro, his step-father. His original BC, which we assume was issued for Barack Hussein Obama at birth, would have been sealed at the time of the adoption.
