But...But...But...they were on their side!

Silly lefties, they just dont get it...
By ROBERT H. REID, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Al-Jazeera broadcast an insurgent video Tuesday showing four peace activists taken hostage in Iraq, with a previously unknown group claiming responsibility for the kidnappings.

The Swords of Righteousness Brigade said the four were spies working undercover as Christian peace activists, Al-Jazeera said. The station said it could not verify any of the information on the tape.

The aid group Christian Peacemaker Teams has confirmed that four of its members were taken hostage Saturday.

German television broadcast photos Tuesday showing a blindfolded German woman being led away by armed captors in Iraq. Six Iranian pilgrims, meanwhile, were abducted by gunmen north of Baghdad.

The pictures of Susanne Osthoff were taken from a video in which her captors demanded that Germany stop any dealings with Iraq's government, according to Germany's ARD television. Germany has ruled out sending troops to Iraq and opposed the U.S.-led war.

Two U.S. soldiers assigned to Task Force Baghdad were killed when their patrol was hit by a roadside bomb north of the capital, the U.S. command said.

At least 2,109 members of the U.S. military have died since the war began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

A suicide car bomber killed eight Iraqi soldiers and wounding five more when he drove into an army patrol Tuesday in Tarmiyah, 30 miles north of Baghdad, police Lt. Ali Hussein said. A U.S. Army medical helicopter helped evacuate the wounded, he added.

Iraq was rocked by a wave of foreigner kidnappings and beheadings in 2004 and early 2005, but they have dropped off in recent months as many Western groups have left and security precautions for those who remain have tightened. Insurgents, including al-Qaida in Iraq, seized more than 225 people, killing at least 38 — including three Americans.

The tape broadcast by Al-Jazeera showed four men and a British passport belonging to Norman Kember. The British government and the Christian Peacemaker Teams have both said Kember, a 74-year-old Briton, was among the four activists taken hostage.

Christian Peacemaker Teams said it would not identify the other three people for their protection.

A white-haired man shown in the passport photograph also was seen sitting on the floor next to three other men in the video, which had a date stamp indicating it was recorded Sunday.

The corner of the video showed two, crossed black swords and the name of the insurgent group written in red Arabic script.

Christian Peacemaker Teams issued a statement Tuesday saying the four men were working on behalf of Iraqi civilians. The group said it has had a team in Iraq since October 2002, working with U.S. and Iraqi detainees and training others in nonviolent intervention and human rights documentation.

Kember and another person were part of a visiting delegation, while two members of the group's Iraq-based staff also were taken, the statement said.

Kember, a retired professor, is a longtime peace activist who once fretted publicly that he was taking the easy way out by protesting in safety at home while British soldiers risked their lives in Iraq.

The U.S. Embassy has confirmed that an American is missing in Iraq — presumably one of the aid workers. A Canadian official has said two Canadians were in the group.

"The team's work has focused on documenting and focusing public attention on detainee abuses, connecting citizens of Iraq to local and international human rights organizations, and accompanying Iraqi civilians as they interact with multinational military personnel and Iraq's government officials," the group said.

The statement said those taken hostage knew the risks when they went to Iraq.

The organization said it "does not advocate the use of violent force to save our lives should we be kidnapped, held hostage, or caught in the middle of a conflict situation."

In Barcelona, Spain, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said he had contacted Iraqi Foreign Minister Hohshyar Zebari about Kember's abduction, and that Zebari "pledged every assistance from the Iraqi government."

Osthoff and her driver have been missing since Friday and, "according to current information, we have to assume it is a kidnapping," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Berlin.

She added that the Foreign Ministry has set up a crisis team to help secure the pair's release.

"The German government will do everything in its power to bring both back to safety," Merkel said.

Osthoff, 43, is a fluent Arab speaker and a trained archaeologist who has worked since 1998 for the Munich-based management consulting firm FaktorM, which said on its Web site that she has "organized and supported the distribution of aid goods in Iraq since 1991." She was in Iraq working to help German organizations distribute medicine and medical supplies.

"One can only hope and keep their fingers crossed and remain optimistic," her mother, Ingrid Hala, told Germany N24 news station.

Hala said she had not heard from her daughter for about five years, and her uncle, Peter Osthoff, said his niece had broken almost all ties with her family, including a daughter who will be 12 in December.

"She has almost no contact with any relatives," he told The Associated Press.

Germany's Central Council of Muslims called for Osthoff's immediate release.

The Iranian pilgrims were abducted Tuesday morning near Balad, 50 miles north of Baghdad, police Maj. Falah Mohammedawi said, but it was not clear if the six were going to or coming from Samarra, a central city that houses a shrine to two Shiite saints.

Iraq and Iran, predominantly Shiite countries, reached an agreement earlier this year on pilgrim visits, which excludes trips to Shiite shrines in Baghdad and Samarra because of the dangerous security situation. The pilgrims appear to have been violating that agreement.

Insurgents have kidnapped aid workers, journalists and contractors in an attempt to drive foreigners out of the country or to win large ransoms.

Since May, abductions have fallen off considerably, mainly because many Western groups left Iraq and security precautions for those remaining have been tightened, with foreigners staying in barricaded compounds and moving only in heavily guarded convoys.

The last American to be kidnapped was Jeffrey Ake, a contract worker from LaPorte, Ind., who was abducted April 11. He was seen in a video aired days afterward, held with a gun to his head, but there has been no word on his fate.

One Marine Says It All

We take the fight to the scumbags and stomp major mud holes in their ass! That’s why they rarely fight us head on, they know they cant win. But it’s the family’s back home who take a blunt shot even if their Marine doesn’t get injured with the usual media reports it doesn’t help one bit pushing everything negative and pointless. We have countless hours of professional training and have the best equipment in the world. Back home their foundations are built on faith, spirit and guts. Never wavering and true to support the cause, they defend their spouse like cornered tigers and that’s on a good day. But the worse for them is the “not knowing”. Routinely many details are withheld from us to them for their best interest and ours. Its just better that way sometimes.

Hat tip to Jen

Things that make you think a little:

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January. In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq. (Maybe we should pull all law enforcement personnel out of Detroit. Ha Ha!)

When some claim that President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following:
A. FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost ... an average of 112,500 per year.
B. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ... an average of 18,334 per year.
C. John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
D. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ... an average of 5,800 per year.
E. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions. (Not sure about those three times- I know of one for certain and yes, Osama orchestrated attacks against us even during Clinton's Presidency.)
F. In the years since terrorists attacked us , President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and North
Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records. (Ha Ha Ha! I fell out of my chair reading that one!)

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick. (Another belly jiggler!)

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!! (And recount and recount and count some more!) But wait...there's more!

JOHN GLENN (On the Senate floor -responding to Senator Metzenbaum)

Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):
"How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"

Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):
"I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank."

"I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day...to a veteran's hospital and look those men ... with their mangled bodies in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job!"

"You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job."

"You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about you?"

For those who didn't know this, during WW.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney
representing the Communist Party in the USA. Now he's a Senator!

If THAT last bit didn't make you laugh, I don't know what will! Enjoy your holiday season. Busy, busy, busy...

100 Arrested at Wal-Mart Construction Site

By MICHAEL RUBINKAM, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 33 minutes ago

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Federal immigration agents detained more than 100 workers at a construction site for a new Wal-Mart distribution center, authorities said.

The workers, who Wal-Mart said were employed by a subcontractor and not by the retailing giant, were detained Thursday on suspected immigration violations, said Department of Homeland Security spokesman Marc Raimondi. They were being taken to Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention centers for processing, he said.

More than 50 federal immigration agents, joined by the U.S. Labor Department, Social Security Administration and state police, raided the construction site near Pottsville, about 80 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

Wal-Mart spokesman Marty Heires said the company would cooperate fully with federal authorities.

"We have written contracts with these subcontractors requiring that they follow all applicable local, state and federal employment laws," he said in a statement.

At least 120 illegal immigrants, most of them from Mexico, were detained, Schuylkill County Sheriff Frank McAndrew said. He said he began investigating the site and contacted federal officials after getting complaints from local tradespeople.

"You've got a situation here where illegal immigrants are coming into Schuylkill County and taking (local union workers') jobs for eight bucks an hour. They are working for poverty wages, and creating unemployment because our skilled tradesmen are out of work," McAndrew said.

In 2003, a raid of 60 Wal-Mart stores in 21 states led to the arrests of 245 illegal workers. An affidavit claimed a pair of senior Wal-Mart executives knew cleaning contractors were hiring illegal immigrants. The retailer agreed to pay $11 million in March to settle the case but denied senior executives knew of the hirings.

Wal-Mart is just bad big business, they don't provide their workers enough compensation, most of them are working poor and still living off the welfare system and are a drain on our resources.

I say F**K Wal-Mart...I havent shopped there for 5 years and I will never again.

Another Dem With WMD Amnesia
Item -- Former President Bill Clinton, Tuesday November 15, 2005:
Clintons Announce Opposition to Iraq War

In twin moves that amount to a 180 degree reversal of their previous positions, former President Bill Clinton called the Iraq war yesterday "a big mistake," while his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, voted for a Democratic bill that would announce a timetable for U.S. withdrawal.

"Saddam is gone. It's a good thing, but I don't agree with what was done," Mr. Clinton told students at the American University of Dubai.

"It was a big mistake," he added, in quotes picked up by the Associated Press. "The American government made several errors, one of which is how easy it would be to get rid of Saddam and how hard it would be to unite the country."
Item -- President Bill Clinton, December 16, 1998:
Six weeks ago, Saddam Hussein announced that he would no longer cooperate with the United Nations weapons inspectors called UNSCOM. They are highly professional experts from dozens of countries. Their job is to oversee the elimination of Iraq’s capability to retain, create and use weapons of mass destruction, and to verify that Iraq does not attempt to rebuild that capability. The inspectors undertook this mission first 7 1/2 years ago at the end of the Gulf War when Iraq agreed to declare and destroy its arsenal as a condition of the ceasefire.

The international community had good reason to set this requirement. Other countries possess weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles. With Saddam, there is one big difference: He has used them. Not once, but repeatedly. Unleashing chemical weapons against Iranian troops during a decade-long war. Not only against soldiers, but against civilians, firing Scud missiles at the citizens of Israel, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iran. And not only against a foreign enemy, but even against his own people, gassing Kurdish civilians in Northern Iraq.

The international community had little doubt then, and I have no doubt today, that left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will use these terrible weapons again.
Video of entire 1998 speech here.

Item -- Senator John Kerry today: "It is hard to name a government official with less credibility on Iraq than Vice-President Cheney."

Item -- Senator John Kerry October 9, 2002:
There are legitimate questions about that timing. But none of the underlying realities of the threat, none of the underlying realities of the choices we face are altered because they are, in fact, the same as they were in 1991 when we discovered those weapons when the teams went in, and in 1998 when the teams were kicked out.

With respect to Saddam Hussein and the threat he presents, we must ask ourselves a simple question: Why? Why is Saddam Hussein pursuing weapons that most nations have agreed to limit or give up? Why is Saddam Hussein guilty of breaking his own cease-fire agreement with the international community? Why is Saddam Hussein attempting to develop nuclear weapons when most nations don't even try, and responsible nations that have them attempt to limit their potential for disaster? Why did Saddam Hussein threaten and provoke? Why does he develop missiles that exceed allowable limits? Why did Saddam Hussein lie and deceive the inspection teams previously? Why did Saddam Hussein not account for all of the weapons of mass destruction which UNSCOM identified? Why is he seeking to develop unmanned airborne vehicles for delivery of biological agents?

Does he do all of these things because he wants to live by international standards of behavior? Because he respects international law? Because he is a nice guy underneath it all and the world should trust him?

It would be naive to the point of grave danger not to believe that, left to his own devices, Saddam Hussein will provoke, misjudge, or stumble into a future, more dangerous confrontation with the civilized world. He has as much as promised it. He has already created a stunning track record of miscalculation. He miscalculated an 8-year war with Iran. He miscalculated the invasion of Kuwait. He miscalculated America's responses to it. He miscalculated the result of setting oil rigs on fire. He miscalculated the impact of sending Scuds into Israel. He miscalculated his own military might. He miscalculated the Arab world's response to his plight. He miscalculated in attempting an assassination of a former President of the United States. And he is miscalculating now America's judgments about his miscalculations.

All those miscalculations are compounded by the rest of history. A brutal, oppressive dictator, guilty of personally murdering and condoning murder and torture, grotesque violence against women, execution of political opponents, a war criminal who used chemical weapons against another nation and, of course, as we know, against his own people, the Kurds. He has diverted funds from the Oil-for-Food program, intended by the international community to go to his own people. He has supported and harbored terrorist groups, particularly radical Palestinian groups such as Abu Nidal, and he has given money to families of suicide murderers in Israel.

The Minutemen, Eh?

David Neiwert reports that the Minutemen are moving into his neck of the woods:

The concept of the Minutemen expanding their "citizens border patrol" concept to the Canadian border is laughable on its face -- but unfortunately, that hasn't stopped them from doing it anyway.

Right here in Washington state, no less.

So, let's be clear: There is no "illegal alien" problem of any kind of magnitude coming from the Canadian side of the border. The biggest problem on the 49th Parallel is the illegal drug trade, which is not a "war on terror" problem, either. The only reason for the Minutemen to gather on the northern border is to give a bunch of bellicose right-wing extremists an opportunity to organize and spread their far-right ideology.

Yup. And in fact, that's the only reason they organized down here, too.

Which led to this shining example of liberalism gone amuck:

LiberalismIsAMentalDisorder said...
The idea of the minutemen organising and making noise about it is not to advance any agenda except bringing light to the problem of the open borders and the danger that exists if it is left unchecked.

Funny how when some groups protest they are villainised in the media, when others who are villains (Moveon.org, A.N.S.W.E.R. et all)protest they are glorified. I call those 2 villains because they are advancing a communist agenda through their protests.

So what makes the 2 so different that minutemen are villified? I would love to hear the reasons as to why you think they are the bad guys.

Anyway, I'm sure you'd love to hear the reasons, but (a) you're a racist prick and you really wouldn't buy it when I point that it's true that Minutemen are simply the modern incarnation of the militia movement, and (b) I don't argue with disrespectful trolls anyhow.

If you came back with an identity besides "liberalism is a mental disorder," then I might put up with you. Except, you know, for the part about you being a racist, red-baiting prick of a troll who isn't worth debating.

Have fun in your tinfoil fantasy land, though! Oooo. COMMUNIST. Scary.

Oh, that's so cute! How charming! I'm sure you open lots of meaningful dialogues about belief systems this way.

"And just WHAT pray tell miss "I know it all about people I dont even know" leads you to believe I am a racist?"

It's also cute how you don't actually deny being a racist, you just deny that I KNOW you're a racist.

Now where did I say ANY of that? My point is proven about liberalism being a mental disorder, it affects you in such a way as you can not read what is in front of you and instead the twisted mind changes the words, letters and meaning to something completely different.

Why is it when nothing else works you libs ALWAYS revert to name calling?

Btw...I am a Mexican American who immigrated here legally 20 years ago.

To which I replied, but she hasnt released the moderation on something to the effect that of course she doesnt believe me, it would not fit into the perverted view of the world she has.

More on this later, watch for an update because I have a couple of points to make concerning her responses.

Oh and unlike her, I do not moderate nor do I wish to even silence the voices of dissention and opinion.

Take that :)

UPDATE 11/11/05

So here are my thoughts on this:

1. What the hell makes me a racist for supporting the minutemen? In my opinion they are nothing more than a protest group who puts words into actions by actually doing something about the open borders. They have successfully brought the issue to the forefront of american politics...mission accomplished.

2. You will notice that when engaged in a discussion, liberals refuse to discuss the issues and instead draw away from it. Is it because they know they have no argument? Is it because they know they are wrong but are too arrogant to admit to that?

3. When confronted with what could be the truth, the doors are closed and there is no further discussion. GO figure the dems closed the doors last week on their session.

4. The whole agenda of the liberals is to put conservatives on the defense, thus sidetracking from the issue. This has worked with some in the past, but for most, it wont work. I have participated on several discussion boards and this seems to be the 1st rule in the liberal handbook.

5. Communist agendas and socialist ideals are a true and real threat to America today. The liberals seem to feel that its a thing of the past, it is not. There are people who actually buy into this CRAP and are a real threat to the very democracy that liberals seem to enjoy using to their advantage.

In a word... F**K the liberals.

Go ahead now..slam me, I welcome it

You learn something new every day

Been away from the puter for a while, found this interesting tidbit on yahoo news:

U.N. Security Council News News Photos Images Web U.N. Security Council voted unanimously Tuesday to extend the mandate of the nearly 180,000-strong multinational force in
Iraq News News Photos Images Web Iraq for a year, a move the United States called a significant signal of international commitment to Iraq's political transition.
The resolution, which was co-sponsored by the United States, Britain, Denmark, Japan and Romania, was adopted in response to a request from Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari for the U.S.-led force to remain in the country.
The current mandate authorizing the presence of the force expires on Dec. 31, about two weeks after parliamentary elections in Iraq — the end point of the political process as defined by the Security Council.
The resolution extends the force's mandate until Dec. 31, 2006, with a review after eight months. Under its terms, the council will "terminate this mandate earlier if requested by the government of Iraq."

Nah you pansy liberals, there is no international support for our presence in Iraq...right?
