The meaning of Christmas

The Meaning of Christmas
It seems we go through this debate every year. What is the meaning of Christmas?
To me, the meaning of Christmas is being nice to people you ordinarily wouldn't. It means putting your own problems aside, even if just for a moment, to recognize someone else- to thank them for what they do. It means giving of yourself to help those less fortunate.
As we approach this coming holiday, please do not forget those who have sacrificed for you. You may not even know them, but they perform their duties for you. They are the men and women of every military service in this great country. How will you honor them?
I asked myself this question as I read with anger and sadness on Michelle Malkin's blog how some soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center are being treated. Death threats, in the form of Christmas cards, have been sent at least to one soldier that we know of. This is a disgrace! It's disgusting!
My husband and I have decided to fight back. Instead of buying ourselves gifts this year, we are giving gifts to the service members recovering at Walter Reed. I am not posting this to receive praise or inflate my ego. I am posting this, so I can challenge you to do the same.
If you have the soldier's name, you can send cards and packages directly to them at
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Ave NW
Washington, DC 20307-5001
For bulk packages of cards for any soldier use the following address:
Red Cross
Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Ave NW
Heaton Pavillion
3EO5
Washington, DC 20307
God Bless!

I actually happen to be (somewhat) of a liberal, but you are completely right here.
Regardless of how we may feel about the war itself, these soldiers deserve our thanks and support and all of God's blessings.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you (and all our brave soldiers).
Thank you Ted for the encouragement. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I happen to be a liberal and have served in the US Marine Corps.
I think you have the general idea of the spirit of the season correct.
The guys in uniform are following orders. If they don't, they get court martialled, thrown in jail, maybe even shot (depending on context).
It is the IDIOTS who brought the war in Iraq who deserve no respect.
"I happen to be a liberal and have served in the US Marine Corps"
And I happen to find that a VERY difficult pill to swallow, if you were a true marine, you wouldnt be liberal, so you were in the service for the wrong reasons.....why? Were you drafted in Vietnam? If you ended up in the Marines that only serves to show you tried to hide from your duty.
"The guys in uniform are following orders. If they don't, they get court martialled, thrown in jail, maybe even shot (depending on context)."
Wrongo there buddy boy...the people in uniform ARE following orders, but they are doing so voluntarily, ask any number of soldiers serving all over the world, they will tell you they are proud to do their part to make this country safer. And uh...we dont do firing squads ... in case you havent noticed .. the liberals would scream bloody murder if we did, although they are silent on Sadaams death squads...kind of curious, dont you think?
"It is the IDIOTS who brought the war in Iraq who deserve no respect"
And there you nail it on the head...good for you, the idiots who brought the war in Iraq was:
Sadaam Hussein
Al Quaeda
Chemical Ali
And the rest of the Sadaam government.
Glad you are making sense ;)
