OUTFLIPPING RAGEOUS

This makes me mad

From Real Debate Wisconsin:

This comes from the mother of a Racine Unified School District 8th grader. She has asked to keep her name out of this but frankly I can't add much to what she has said here but I do have one question. Did the teacher give equal time and a fair discussion about John McCain and his "life of service"? I think I already know the answer to that question. This is not education folks, this is indoctrination.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!

My 8th grade son is in an advanced English class at a public middle school here in Racine, Wisconsin. I just found out that my son's new (copyright 2008) Wisconsin - McDougal Littell Literature book has 15 pages covering Barack Obama.

I was shocked - No John McCain, no Hillary Clinton, no George Bush - Just Barack Obama. I'm wondering how it is that Obama's story gets put into an 8th grade literature book? It would be one thing, if it was just the tidbit about his boyhood days, but 15 pages, and they talk about his "Life of Service". Honestly, what has Obama really done to be included in this book? Not only that, but on page 847 there is a photo of Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention with at least 8 Obama signs in the background! Front & center is an www.obama2004.com sign.

Now I understand that many teachers are liberals, but does the school have the right to shove Obama down our kid's throats? All the kids grouped together and read the story. After that, they discussed it... I guess it appears that Obama is planning ahead. If he doesn't get his coveted Presidency, Obama is going to make sure, that the younger generations know all about him, and his "life of service".

If you would like to see the 15 page story on Obama, it appears that you can order this book online. There is a note in the book that says, For more on Barack Obama, visit the Literature Center at www.ClassZone.com The book is: Wisconsin - 8th grade - McDougal Littell Literature - copyright 2008. The Obama story starts on page 830. I hope you will take the time to look at this book. I'm really angry about this - In fact, I would love to rip the pages right out of this book.

By the way, you might find this interesting: I did a little checking on McDougal Littell, and it appears that MCDOUGAL, ALFRED L CHICAGO , IL 60611 - N/A/RETIRED has been making contributions to Barack Obama's campaign!

I found that information on this website.
http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=IL&last=MCDOUGAL&first=ALFRED
Now I'm not an expert at these things (just a PTA mom), but It looks to me like Alfred McDougal is connected to McDougal Littell the same company that publishes the 8th grade textbook that has 15 pages on Obama. Like I said, I'm not an expert, but I'm sure you have someone who can delve into the dirty little details.

I guess my question is: Is it ethical for an Obama supporter to publish an educational book which has a 15 page Barrack Obama story in it? If the tax payers are paying for these books, why is it okay for McDougal Littell to promote Obama? This really bothers me. I would have no problem with it, if Obama had actually done something important. Why is Obama being put up on a pedestal, before he actually wins the pedestal? All I can say, is we can thank the liberal media, and now the liberal book publishers. Thanks to them, I'm sure there are probably thousands of these books all across the United States.

Great question, and the answer is no, it is not ethical.

Gotta love them schools..........NOT

So yesterday was an important day in American History, though you would never think that if you are a lefty.

It was so important, that my oldest boy, who is 8, and I sat down and watched the video that I posted yesterday on the memorial tribute. Before starting I explained to him that it was a tragic day and lots of people died. He asked, How many dad?. I said over 3000. He is 8, that is a number he can not comprehend.

So we watched the video with me stopping it in parts to explain to him what he was seeing.

Some examples...this is the the towers after they fell. This is a person who is covered in dust from the buildings, these are people who got out before the collapse. Etc.

I cried in parts as I explained to him just how pissed off Americans were that day.

And I tried my best, in his way, to get him to comprehend what he just saw.

All he could say was, Dad, that was a sad day.

Yes son, it was.

When he got home from school, I asked him if any mention was made in school of this day and its importance to Americans. He said noone talked about it. I asked my oldest daughter, who is 9, was anything said today in school about today and its importance to America.

Want to know the answer?

No....there was no mention made, no lessons ... No talking about it.

This really makes me mad. On 9/11/2001 terrorists brought their war to us...on our soil..the attacked the United States of America. Just like the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. But was anything said? No

And what kills me is a good percentage of those kids have relatives who are either serving in the Armed Forces or have served.

Its important that we never forget, but for all intents and purposes, the schools don't seem to understand that.

I am attending the next PTO meeting at the schools my kids attend. And my outrage at them not teaching our children what happened will be heard. If your kids attend school, make it a point to do the same.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET

UPDATE 3:55 PM

Just got of the phone with the elementary school principal who was responding personally to an email I sent.

She told me that the district doesnt want to "scare" kids that young, the reason...there are some kids parents who would rather forget it. She related to me and we had a conversation as to what she was doing that day and how she felt. She told me that she has a first grader that will never forget as well, but she would rather not deal with a school full of scared children.

Fair enough, some parents want to hide their heads in the sand...the principal sounded irritated when she talked about that, she said she wishes that every kid could understand and have it drilled into them every year, but she is held back by district policy.

The upshot? In the 4th and 5th grade they talk about it during social studies.

I guess there is hope yet

Do your job...and what do you get?

From The Arizona Daily Star:

Tucson Region
School arrest puts TUSD librarian on paid leave
By George B. Sánchez
Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.30.2008

A Tucson Unified School District librarian has been on paid leave for three months, after he was arrested for trespassing at a middle school.

Richard Choquette, 52, refused to leave Valencia Middle School, 4400 W. Irvington Road, on Feb. 28, one day after he was put on administrative leave for putting a student in an empty room to isolate her from her classmates. Choquette confirmed what two reports from the Pima County Sheriff's Department say: that deputies were called about the incident and he was arrested on campus.

District officials wouldn't comment on the incident because Choquette's criminal trial is pending. He earns $64,535 annually, excluding benefits, said Karen Bynum, a TUSD spokeswoman.

Choquette doesn't deny isolating the student as a disciplinary and academic tactic.

"Over nine years, I've done it hundreds of times," he said.

Nor does he deny trespassing, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of four months in jail and a $750 fine, said Paul Gattone, his attorney.

As a member of Valencia's site council, Choquette said it was his right to attend the council's meeting the day he was arrested, despite the administrative leave, which mandates he stay away from the campus, students, parents and staff.

"Those meetings are open to the public," Gattone said. "In any case, he had a right to be there."

Still, according to the Sheriff's Department reports, Choquette did not seemed surprised at the presence of deputies.

"You guys are probably here because I'm supposed to not be here," he is quoted as saying.

The deputies gave him the opportunity to leave and receive a citation instead of going to jail.

The report continues:

"Mr. Choquette advised me that he believed that he was going to make a statement by going to jail. He stated that he knows that it may be a personal sacrifice on his part, but he believed that he was going to capitalize on this situation and he was going to make money off of this because he was being treated very wrongly," the report states.

Choquette was placed on leave because a female student complained about him, stating she was locked in a closet. He said she was not locked in a closet but placed in a meeting room within the library. The room cannot be locked, he said.
A student would be placed in the room, the librarian said, to keep classes in order and give the young person an individual reading space. The student in question was verbally disruptive that day, he recalled. She wasn't the only one, he added.

"On Monday, the day of that incident, there were several other students that had to be removed to isolated areas," he said.

Asked if the principal, or other administrators, knew of the tactic, Choquette said:
"I don't see how they couldn't. I had been using it as a routine measure."

But the practice is unacceptable, said Chyrl Hill Lander, another TUSD spokeswoman.
"We expect our students to be supervised at all times," she said. "It is not appropriate to separate kids into empty rooms when there's no adult supervision."

The student was part of a class in the library that day, Choquette recalled, and her teacher was aware that the girl was placed in a room by herself. That the teacher was not disciplined causes Choquette to believe he is being targeted by TUSD administrators.

By his own admission, this isn't the first accusation against him. In 2001, he said, he was accused of assaulting a student, though he said there was insufficient evidence to support the claim.

Despite his problems with administrators and students, Choquette said he is "passionately devoted" to teaching. Since he has been on administrative leave, he said he has been researching free-speech rights as they apply to public schools and public employees, what he calls "principal abuse" and student discipline. Choquette has contributed numerous guest opinions to the Arizona Daily Star's editorial page.
Even if he is convicted of trespassing, Choquette said he expects to return to work in the TUSD.
