Sen. Barack Obama Apologizes for Saying U.S. Troops 'Wasted'

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is apologizing for saying the lives of the more than 3,000 U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war were "wasted."

During his first campaign trip this weekend, the Illinois senator told a crowd in Iowa: "We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."

He immediately apologized on Sunday, saying the remark was "a slip of the tongue."

During an appearance Monday in Nashua, N.H., he apologized again, telling reporters he meant to criticize the civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military.

"Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken," Obama said. "It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any (military families) felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that they'd shown."

Obama made his second visit to New Hampshire on Monday, following his speech Saturday announcing his candidacy in Illinois on Saturday and a visit to first-caucus state Iowa.

Ok look here you big dummy. Lemme learn you a thing or 2

He immediately apologized on Sunday, saying the remark was "a slip of the tongue."

Is that right? Was this RIGHT AFTER you said it you moron or because someone had pointed it out?

During an appearance Monday in Nashua, N.H., he apologized again, telling reporters he meant to criticize the civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military.

Seems the dems cant do that without revealing their true anti-troop agenda. If it happened once or twice...FINE..I can accept that, but it happens EVERY STINKING DAY

"Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken," Obama said. "It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any (military families) felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that they'd shown."

Oh?? Even as you said it?? Which is why you stopped and apologised and corrected yourself right away huh? YOU LYING SACK OF COW DUNG...HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE AMERICAN PEOPLES INTELLIGENCE. And he would "absolutely apologise IF..." IF... IF ... IF WHAT YOU BIG DUMMY? IF YOU WERE CALLED ON IT? NOT BECAUSE APOLOGISING IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO?? ONLY BECAUSE SOMEONE IS OFFENDED?

YOU STUPID BUFFOON....STFU

Ok, please try to explain to me without all the anger and vulgarity exactly how this comment is such an insult to the troops and their families? I do feel that the loss of lives in this unjust, unwarranted war is a waste. I blame the Bush regime for this unnecessary destruction of American lives. I will save my usual anti-Bush rant for another time in the hopes of trying to understand what angers the right-wing so much when this type of criticism is leveed.

Perhaps it is the feeling that the loss of a family or friend for 'nothing' is deeply painful on top of the already felt pain associated with the loss itself. Kind of an existentialist depression magnified and exponentiated?

However, at the same time, if a critic of this war, like me, who feels the loss of life is unnecessary and a waste truly expresses and feels sorrow and pain for those who lost someone, can you not see that the expression is against the war and those who started it - and has nothing to do with a disrespect or certainly a criticism for the innocent soldiers put in this situation?

If you cannot drop the un-American BS - we'll never get anywhere...

If you can not see it, then there is no use in arguing with you about it wage slave.

No American life lost in the middle east is "wasted" Its a life given in courage, sacrifice and duty to the country in doing our part to help spread democracy. We did a good thing for the people of Iraq, freeing them from a brutal dictator who was taking their food and money and spending it on his own lavish lifestyle.

And again...if you cant, or dont see it, then there is no use arguing.

Oh yeah, mentaldisorder, Iraq sure seems a lot better off right now. I'm sure the world feels a whole safer too because of Bush then it did before he invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

You are right, there is no use arguing - you're blind right-wing eyes fail to see any truth that strays from your sick idealism.
