Senator arrested in probation violation

State Sen. Gary Siplin, D-Orlando, was arrested Wednesday because he took a trip to Tallahassee this week to meet with fellow legislators without his probation officer's permission, officials said.
He was booked into the Orange County Jail without bail about 5 p.m., and was released later Wednesday night.
The senator is not allowed to leave Orange County without permission -- even for his work in the state's capitol -- according to his probation officer's report.
Senate Democratic Leader Steve Geller of Hallandale Beach called the action "persecution rather than prosecution." Geller said Siplin was trying to balance two legal obligations stemming from his conviction and his service as a state legislator.
Earlier this month, Orange Circuit Judge Julie O'Kane sentenced Siplin to three years probation, 300 hours of community service and court fines. A jury convicted him in August of felony grand theft and using state employees to work on his campaign while on the state's clock, which is a misdemeanor. Prosecutors say he used taxpayer money to pay staff working on his 2004 re-election campaign.

The silence from the MSM media on this is deafening...had this guy been Republican, the press would be all over him villifying him and making it out to be a big deal.
If you ask me, this pantywaist Senator got off easy with the charges against him, at the VERY least he should have been removed from office, as ANY elected official should be at the conviction of ANY crime. We hold them to a higher standard...or at least decent americans do.
Yep...no bias from the press here!

Rules, standards of conduct and ethics are always only applied to Republicans. Democrats know they can count on sympathetic media allies to ignore or blunt any demand for accountability of their actions.
I'm still waiting to find out who in Congressman John Conyer's office stole the turkeys a Detroit Food Bank asked them to give out to the poor.
And now Conyers will be the chair of the House Judiciary Committee. A turkey thief in charge of writing laws. How appropriate.
Yup..couldnt have said it better myself!
