Comment Moderation turned on

I hate to do this, but due to the shenanigans of a few children who have nothing better to do than post idiotic and non-sensical crap in my comments section, I have turned comment moderation on. If the comment you make relates to the topic at hand without a bunch of BS on it, it will be posted, otherwise it will be moderated out of existence.

I ALWAYS welcome and encourage debate when it is done in an intelligent, adult fashion.

Self-proclaimed alternative energy proponent Sen. Ted Kennedy has strongly opposed an environmentally friendly "wind farm" off the coast of Massachusetts - and now it appears Kennedy will have his way.

A proposal before Congress would limit the construction of wind turbines and most likely doom plans for the Cape Wind Project, the nation's first offshore wind farm.
This is a dire moment for us," declared Mark Rodgers, a Cape Wind Associates spokesman, who said the proposal "would be totally fatal" for the project.

The Cape Wind Project would erect 130 windmills in Nantucket Sound and could provide three-fourths of the power needed by Cape Cod and nearby islands, which is now largely supplied by coal-fired plants.

But Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has called for a ban on all wind turbines within 1.5 nautical miles of shipping and ferry lanes, The Washington Post reports.

Young cited research in Britain suggesting that the wind turbines' huge blades could interfere with shipboard radar, and he singled out the Cape Wind site - close to sea routes between the Cape and the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard - as especially unsafe.

Cape Wind officials call Young's concerns a "pretext" for killing the project, according to the Post, and point out that in 2003 a contractor for the Army Corps of Engineers stated that the wind farm "is not expected to create negative impacts to navigational safety."

But the project had a powerful enemy in Sen. Kennedy, who has voiced strong support for alternative energy projects - as long as they are not in his backyard.

In his book "Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy," author Peter Schweizer first disclosed: "Senator Kennedy has introduced dozens of pieces of legislation over the years to encourage the development of solar, hydrogen, and wind as alternatives to oil and coal."

Why, then, would Kennedy oppose the Cape Wind Project?

"The wind turbines would be built in Nantucket Sound, about six miles off the coast from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis," Schweizer explains.

"The problem was not aesthetic; the Kennedys wouldn't be able to actually see the turbines from their home. Instead Robert Kennedy Jr., who had been beating the drum for alternative sources of energy for more than a decade, complained that the project would be built in one of the family's favorite sailing and yachting areas."

Sen. Kennedy publicly called for further study of the project - but "privately, he tried to get the study canceled," Schweizer writes.

The federal Minerals Management Service is expected to issue a final verdict on the project early next year.

Nathanael Greene, a senior policy analyst at the Natural Resources Defense Council, told the Post: "This is sort of backdoor politics at its worst, for the worst possible reasons."

"At my age, my biggest dream is to have a child, but I don't want him to suffer what I've suffered as an illegal," says Los Angeles resident, Cecilia Ruiz.

"I know that for now such an initiative is not law, but I worry about my future and having to leave my child behind if I'm ever deported," says the 30-year- old woman.

Did this bring a tear to anyone's eye?? Did anyone notice the first sentence? She admits she's an illegal. In the same breath the reporter here calls her a resident of LA. Which is it??

LOS ANGELES – Legislation denying citizenship to children born to undocumented immigrants residing in the United States, sits quietly in Congressional subcommittee while the Senate gears up to debate a second law, HR 4437, that immigration right's groups say unfairly hurts undocumented immigrants.

And although the citizenship legislation, HR 4437, the "Border Protection and Anti-Terrorism and Illegal Immigration 2005 Control Act," does not appear to be moving quickly, many undocumented immigrants say they fear that situation could quickly change.

The "situation" needs to change and it can't come quick enough. "Undocumented" is "illegal" and the media can try to bleed my heart but it isn't going to work. I respect the laws of this nation. I respect my fellow citizens who do the same. I welcome foreigners to America, for a better life, so long as they do it legally.


Introduced last year by the author of HR 4437, Republican James Sensenbrenner, and endorsed by other Republican elected officials including Tom Tancredo, Nathan Deal, J. D. Hayworth and Jack Kingston, "The Citizenship Reform Act" proposes that only children born to American citizens, naturalized citizens or permanent residents be given U. S. citizenship.

Currently, the U.S. automatically grants citizenship to all those born in the country, except children born to diplomats subject to international treaties.

Alleging that close to 300,000 undocumented woman cross the border every year to give birth to children in the U. S. as a ploy to get US citizenship and that the cost to taxpayers for medical and prenatal care is too high, Republicans endorsing the anti-citizenship measure say they will not rest until they see the legislation become law.

Times have changed and so should the laws. Nothing is progressive when it isn't kept up to date right? Women who enter the US illegally just to have their babies don't deserve citizenship. They should be booted right back out to where they came from. Sound harsh? Well, it's harsh when you're an American citizen, in LA, in labor and waiting for a bed because some Latino-illegal bimbo is using the space. What's more harsh is the American woman will pay the bill of the illegal bimbo, via taxes and increased cost of heathcare in general. Nice trade.

A possible reemergence of the proposition keeps activists pro-immigrant groups worried and alert, with some saying they are prepared for its return due to the recent anti-immigrant wave of "vigilantes," extremists" and "unconstitutional laws" being pushed in the country.

Say again?? What unconstitutional laws? If Congress passes legislation, it becomes the LAW. Sounds like some of these people need basic education in American civics.

"An initiative that denies citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants goes against the Constitution," says Angela Sambrano, president of the Central America Resource Center.

According to the 14th Amendment, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States."

"The legislation would change the U. S. Constitution. That's why it hasn't advanced to the Senate. But we know the Republicans in favor of this act will come back to try and take away the rights to citizenship and we will be there to fight them," says Sambrano.

Ahh lady...take that course in civics will you?


To deny a child the right to be a citizen because his mother is undocumented is something we [activists] will not tolerate," says Michelle Waslin of National Council of La Raza.

"Most women don't plan to get pregnant so that in 21 years they can become residents," said Ruiz. "That's crazy... if I wanted it that way, then I would be getting married to a 'gringo,' so I don't have to wait that long for my legal residence..." she says.

Ms. Waslin, I don't think you understand the force behind the modern movement against illegal immigration. It's not the Senators, it's we the AMERICAN people.

A Lady liberal wrote a lot of letters to the White House complaining about
the treatment of a captive insurgent (terrorist) being held in Guantanamo Bay. She received back the following reply:

Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the
Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba.


Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinion was heard
loud and clear here in Washington. You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks
to the concerns of citizens like yourself, we are creating a new division
of
the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept
Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to
place one terrorist under your personal care. Your personal detainee has
been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to
your residence next Monday. Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just

Wear a Head Scarf in Turkey or Get Stoned

I knew the headline would grab you. The 'get stoned' part is literal as in getting hit with large rocks. Here's some of what Gateway Pundit has on the incident.

Aliye Cetinkaya, a journalist from the Turkish daily Sabah newspaper, who was reporting on the recent protests over the offensive caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, was stoned in Konya for reasons demonstrators said were provocative – as she did not cover her head. Cetinkaya was taken away by male colleagues after stones hit her head and shoulders. The female journalist was attacked for being ‘sexually provocative’ for not wearing a head scarf at the demonstration organised by the Peoples Education Research and Support Group in Konya (He-Da-Der) and entitled ‘Loyalty to the Prophet’. How the White House handled Foster's 1993 death, and the possibility that administration officials improperly removed documents from his office or impeded an official search of it, has been the subject of intense scrutiny by congressional Republicans and the media.

The newly released memo, written by White House lawyer Miriam Nemetz, quotes then-White House chief of staff Mack McLarty as saying Mrs. Clinton "was very upset and believed the matter required further thought and the president should not yet be told" about Foster's note. ..........

Moviegoing Turks meet new enemy, and it is U.S.

ISTANBUL The crowd cheered, clapped and whistled as the Turkish agent plunged the knife into the chest of the enemy commander.

"Valley of the Wolves - Iraq," which opened last week in movie theaters in Turkey, Austria and Germany, is a Rambo-like action story involving, in this case, Turkish gunmen who seek revenge against a tyrannical occupying army.

But in this version, the most expensive movie ever made in Turkey, the enemy is no oppressive third-world dictatorship. The commander's name is "Sam" - as in Uncle - and the opposing forces are Americans, who are being punished for offenses against Turkish as well as Iraqi pride and honor.

Sam William Marshall, played by Billy Zane, is portrayed as a sociopath, killing people without a second thought and claiming that he is doing God's will, a thinly veiled reference to statements by President George W. Bush about America's "crusade" for democracy in Iraq and the Middle East.

Indeed, while fictional, some of the movie is based on real events. The opening sequence portrays an incident that made headlines in 2003, when a group of Turkish special forces soldiers in Iraq was taken into custody by American marines. The Turks, mistaken for insurgents, were handcuffed and held with hoods over their heads. The incident angered many Turks.

Other scenes show ruthless marines killing Iraqis and soldiers mistreating inmates at Abu Ghraib prison. A Jewish-American doctor, played by Gary Busey, is shown as shipping inmates' organs to New York, London and Israel. All these, according to the screenwriter, Bahadir Ozdener, were inspired by real events.

Zane said he was not bothered by the movie's anti-American tone, adding that the horrors of war should be exposed.

"I acted in this movie because I'm a pacifist," he said in a televised interview. "I'm against all kinds of war."

Whatever its artistic merits, the movie, which has already broken Turkish box office records, has highlighted a growing discrepancy in how America is seen in Turkey.

Officially, the two governments have been enjoying much-improved relations after a low point in 2003, when Turkey refused to allow American troops to cross the country to invade Iraq. On the street, however, public opinion of America has been steadily declining since the invasion of Iraq, the revelations about the abuse at Abu Ghraib and the suspected transferring of Al Qaeda suspects to foreign countries to be tortured in secret prisons.

Yet since the invasion, Turkey has provided logistical support to American troops in Iraq from Incirlik Air Base and has contributed military personnel to the American-led mission in Afghanistan.

Washington has reciprocated by vocally supporting Turkey's bid for membership in the European Union and efforts to resolve the Cyprus conflict.

The issue becomes complicated, however, when it comes to the war on terror. Outwardly, the two countries are committed partners in fighting terrorism of all kinds.

But Turkey has been fighting with Kurdish separatists seeking independence since the 1980s.

Since the invasion of Iraq, the U.S. military has been reluctant to act against the Kurdish Workers Party and has allowed it to operate in northern Iraq, which has distressed many in Turkey. Essentially, Washington tolerates a de facto Kurdish state in northern Iraq.

"People think that the U.S. supports an independent Kurdish state in northern Iraq and therefore threatens the unity of Turkish land," said Nilufer Narli, a sociology professor at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul.

Popular opinion of the United States and its allies, including Israel, seems to be steadily declining. Anti-American novels, including one that portrayed a war between the United States and Turkey, have been selling briskly; Hitler's "Mein Kampf" became a best seller last year.

Narli believes that the perceived U.S. support for the Kurds is at the heart of this decline.

Despite its popularity, however, "Valley of the Wolves - Iraq" neither triggered widespread anti-American violence in the country nor urged people to take to the streets to protest the war in Iraq.

"It doesn't show anything that we did not already know," said Fahri Kaya, a 22-year-old security guard. "It was more like a group therapy that gave people a chance to let go of their negative feelings against what's been happening in Iraq as they shouted, clapped and cried."

The U.S. ambassador to Turkey, Robert Wilson, in a televised interview on NTV last week, acknowledged that it was only a movie made for entertainment, but he said he still was not pleased with the way America was portrayed. He highlighted the good relations that the two countries have shared.

Egemen Bagis, the former head of the Turkish American Businessmen's Association, agreed.

"Our alliance with the U.S. has very strong roots," he said. "A movie or a book just cannot destroy it."

"Valley of the Wolves - Iraq," which opened last week in movie theaters in Turkey, Austria and Germany, is a Rambo-like action story involving, in this case, Turkish gunmen who seek revenge against a tyrannical occupying army.

But in this version, the most expensive movie ever made in Turkey, the enemy is no oppressive third-world dictatorship. The commander's name is "Sam" - as in Uncle - and the opposing forces are Americans, who are being punished for offenses against Turkish as well as Iraqi pride and honor.

Sam William Marshall, played by Billy Zane, is portrayed as a sociopath, killing people without a second thought and claiming that he is doing God's will, a thinly veiled reference to statements by President George W. Bush about America's "crusade" for democracy in Iraq and the Middle East.

So just for fun, I decided to post on Craigslist Tucson in the Rants and Raves section in response to someone who was spouting that the war in Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11 and instead was about Oil (Typical) I attached the following picture which was taken by Coalition soldiers in Southern Iraq.



I posted with the title, "Nah...Sadaam had NOTHING to do with 9/11" With the body, "This picture, taken in Iraq, says it all" Then sat back to watch the fun begin.

The first posting in response to this was:

Wow, now there was an intelligent, thought out response. Keep in mind that Craigslist, no matter where you go, is populated with liberals, so your chances of getting a response from a lib is about 1 to 1 in odds.

I posted this with the intention of not responding, just seeing what happens, so sit back and watch I did. The next response was another typical lib tactic...divert the attention away from the subject matter at hand.

Whom are you addressing? I didn't see a post saying Sadaam had nothing to do with the WTC attack. He didn't, by the way. Our "intelligence" agencies tried endlessly to prove a connection and came up empty handed. But a finger painting from some uneducated, angry, America hating Arab proves it? HAHAHAHAHA! That's a fucking riot!!

I don't think there's much difference between people on the right making a claim, and the counterclaims from the left to be honest. The post showed a picture, and after I did some research on it, it does appear to be a viable information site. I would suggest that all you who hate Bush at least have an open mind rather than to just make it up based on political statements by opponents of either the war, or Bush. As time goes along, evidence may surface showing events much different than we think we know them now....or do we know them now at all? Claims from both sides have clouded the facts, and only time will tell. To all you suppporters of a conspiracy theory, I say.....go get absolute proof. Not some web site or blog shit, but absolute proof, that cannot be denied. You will be RICH!!!! Think of how much money the Dems would pay for it!! Sell it to the prime-time media!! GET RICH QUICK!!! You think for a sec that everyone that would have been involved in a conspiracy of this magnitude would have or could have kept their mouths shut? THEY NEVER DO!! But here we go..back to old Oil argument.

neither can the executive branch of the current administration find proof. But that's not the point, now is it? OIL. which is very hard to live w/o.
The travisty lies in the profiteering. Halliburton and Exxon have done very well. what do you tell an enlisted person when his armour is taken while he's wounded and he's forced to pay for it? what do you say when the hummer lacks armour plate? exxon neeeded the share increase. halliburton was trying to set a profit record?!!!



Ok, now this I dont understand, the war is about profiteering fom oil and Exxon posted record profits...lemme see here for a second. Gas prices were artificially inflated at LEAST 3 times that I can remember in the past year. The oil companies were crying that it was costing them MORE to produce gasoline, so that is why the price of gas went up....and yet...they post RECORD profits. To the right...1+1=2 .. to the left 1+1=whatever someone tells them its supposed to equal and they run with it....IE They dont use the brains God gave them to draw their own conclusion. BTW, this guy also tried to detract from the subject matter at hand by bringing up armor plating..which has been a non-issue for some time now.

I didn't say you had to accept it. Now go find the proof. You believe what you WANT to believe until the time that actual factual proof is brought forward. Then you will know for sure. Hell, even then there will be a huge percentage who won't believe it, even if they are strapped to chairs and force fed it. So, how do you recognize the truth? It is anything that is anti-gov't? Is it anything that is anti-Bush? Or is it anything anyone tells you other than what you want to hear? I suspect the actual truth is somewhere in there, but you all know and have to admit that a conspiracy is fun, and a lot easier to believe because it is sooooo cool...right? The actual truth is probably pretty simple and mundane. Ever read how Germany and Spain uncovered what went on there during the Al Queada meetings of the men who planned 9/11 and carried it out? Or do you just believe what posts you read here that are anti whatever you think they should be anti of? So, tell me, since you know more than every one else does. Where is the proof, and what is the truth? Details now, as I don't want conjecture or guessing. Oh yeah, did you ever read about old Billy Boy (blowjob) Clinton and Halliburton and all the contracts he gave them without bids? I suggest you go do it. Osama Bin Laden proudly taking responsibility for it, and a mural in Southern Iraw showing a smiling Sadaam Hussein next to a depiction of the WTC burning.

Noone else has responded and my entertainment with the moonbats has drawn to a close for this week.

We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear, if that’s not respected we would rather stay here. So please stop yelling and put down your signs, and pray for those behind enemy lines.

When the conflict is over and all is well, be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Jimmy Carter, one of four presidents to speak, took a jab at Bush's domestic eavesdropping program during six hours of sermons, speeches and song for the late widow of Nobel peace laureate Martin Luther King Jr., assassinated in 1968.

The 10,000 mourners also heard the Rev. Joseph Lowery, a civil-rights leader, cite Mrs. King's legacy as a champion of racial equality while launching barbs at Bush administration policies on Iraq and health care......

The fact that anyone would take advantage of the fact that the president is sitting in a captive audience and take jabs at him, AT A FUNERAL shows NO CLASS WHATSOEVER Even Hillary Clinton was classy enough to actually HONOR the late Mrs King as opposed to Carter, who used it for political grandstanding.

This rates right up there with Cindy SHAMEHAN wearing that shirt into the State of The Union address...NO CLASS.

Mrs King was a GREAT woman, and her husband was a GREAT man, and together they did more to bring this country together than anyone else in history has done. Good way to honor her memory....divide the country along political lines..makes perfect sense..if your a stinking liberal with a mental disorder

Militants Silence Villagers in Thailand

KATHONG, Thailand - Islamic militants in Thailand are spreading a murderous message to would-be informants that government collaborators face death, further hardening the battle lines in a bloody insurgency.

Nowhere is that clearer than in this southern village, where Sudeng Warebuesa's empty bullet-riddled house stands as a haunting reminder.

He, his wife, 8-month-old daughter and five other relatives were slain in the pre-dawn hours of Nov. 15 by a half-dozen gunmen who stormed their house, firing a barrage of bullets as they slept.

Outside, other gunmen sprayed bullets into neighboring homes — an apparent warning to keep away.

One of 300 so-called red-zone villages, Kathong is one of the most dangerous places in the country's increasingly restive southernmost provinces. It is in the middle of an Islamic insurgency that has killed more than 1,200 people in two years, with almost daily bombings, beheadings and drive-by shootings.

One way to stay safe, villagers say, is to steer clear of the path that Sudeng took — betraying the insurgents.

"Sudeng was a key member of the rebel movement. He turned his back on it about four or five months ago and became an informant," said Col. Somkuan Saengpataraneth, spokesman for the regional army headquarters. "He was terminated by the movement."

Relatives and friends are incredulous, saying the man they knew was a rubber tapper who made his livelihood at plantations around Kathong, a village of 120 people in Narathiwat province, bordering Malaysia.

"People said my uncle was a member of the rebel movement, but I don't believe it," said Ha Salae, 25, who lives nearby and recalls huddling with his family in a bedroom during the gunfire that killed his uncle.

Security forces have blamed the slayings on insurgents, though, as in every attack before and since, no one has claimed responsibility.

More than 20,000 soldiers and police across the region are hunting for an estimated 2,000 insurgents, but the true number remains unknown.

The insurgency, rooted in the provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala — the only ones with Muslim majorities in predominantly Buddhist Thailand — seeks a separate Islamic homeland.

Zachary Abuza, an expert on terrorism in Southeast Asia who recently visited the region, said the militants are intent on imposing a strict interpretation of Islam — and punishing Muslims who don't heed their vision.

About 10 percent of Thailand's 65 million people are Muslims. Most live in the three southernmost provinces, where they have long complained of second-class treatment.

The violence has mostly targeted Muslims, who represent more than half the victims, according to Abuza and other experts. Official statistics do not provide breakdowns by religion.

"Since March 2005, most of the victims have been Muslims," Abuza said at a seminar in Bangkok. "They're trying to impose their hard-line vision on society."

Others see the movement as nationalist rather than religious, with Muslims targeted mainly if they work for the local government and are seen to be siding with authorities.

"This is a way to scare the people who work for the government — or take the government's side," said Srisompop Chitphiromsri, a professor at the Prince of Songkhla University in Pattani.

Either way, fear among villagers has become pervasive — partly because it has become difficult to tell if a father, son or neighbor has joined the insurgency.

Mana Jehsani, 48, looked pale and shaken on a recent afternoon as he sat in a military safehouse watching an army video in which his son confessed to membership in the rebel movement.

"I was recruited into the black organization several years ago," his son, Masorey Jehsani, 25, said, staring into the camera. "I had strict orders to keep the secret and tell no one — not even my mother or father. Nobody was allowed to know about our mission for God."

Masorey was one of 16 people arrested in December during raids in Pattani province. He is charged with the murder of a Buddhist monk and the beheading of another man, as well as membership in the rebel movement, and faces the death penalty.

The confession could yield a reduced sentence, but his father was weighed down by additional concerns.

"I am frightened that my family will meet the same fate as the family in Kathong," he said.

Since the violence started in January 2004, the militants' bombs have grown larger and more sophisticated, lending weight to speculation that they get help from abroad — though there remains no hard evidence of outside involvement.

The government insists the insurgency is "homegrown," and no foreign terrorists are involved.

But authorities have been stumped about exactly who is leading the movement. There have been few arrests of leaders and no clear statement of purpose by the rebels.

Najmudeen Umar, a former lawmaker who was acquitted of involvement in a raid by insurgents, said authorities need intelligence few villagers are willing to provide.

"No one dares to tell the truth about what is happening here," he said, "because they fear for their lives."
